The Allied Irish Bank Ltd emerged from the amalgamation of the Provincial Bank of Ireland with the Munster & Leinster Bank and Royal Bank of Ireland. The new designs for the first two series of notes after 1977 carried the title of the Provincial Bank of Ireland Ltd but the title was changed to Allied Irish Banks Ltd in 1982
