Lieutenant Archibald Malcolm Gillies was one of four officers of the regiment who served in Somaliland. At the battle of Jidballi the detachment was attached to the 52nd Sikhs who formed the front face of the square during the action. Lieutenant Gillies died on 30th September, 1906, from an accident at polo.
