Private Edward Short, 1st battalion 60th Rifles, died of Cholera at Meerut on 15 August 1856.

George Short was born in the Parish of Westoning, near Ampthill, Bedfordshire. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the 12th Regiment on 26 July 1848. He deserted on 19 May 1849, rejoined on 12 November 1849 and was tried by Court Martial and sentenced to 3 months imprisonment. He was transferred to the 1st Battalion 60th Regiment in July 1851. With them he served in India, October 1852-March 1860 and saw service in the suppression of the Indian Mutiny for which he was awarded the medal with clasp for Delhi. He subsequently served in Malta, March 1866-September 1867 and Canada, September 1867-May 1870. He was discharged in July 1870. Sold with copied research.
