Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Defence of Lucknow (D. Hill, 1st Batn. 5th Fusrs.) minor edge bruising, some contact marks, nearly very fine £750-850

David Hill was born in the Parish of Whitechurch, near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for service in the 5th Regiment at Aylesbury on 13 January 1855, aged 17 years, 6 months. Serving with the regiment in during the suppression of the Indian Mutiny, he served in the First Relief of Lucknow. He was severely wounded in the right thigh on 26 September 1857. Hill made a good recovery and volunteered for service in the 98th Regiment in 1861. He was discharged at Colchester in June 1865 but re-engaged in Agust the same year. Promoted to Corporal in July 1866 and Sergeant in January 1873, he was discharged to a pension in February 1876. Sold with copied service papers and roll extract.
