William Brown was born in Birmingham. A Tiler by occupation, he attested for service in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment on 6 February 1892, aged 18 years, 4 months, having previously served in the 4th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment. With the regiment he served in Ceylon, December 1892-March 1896; Malta, March 1896-January 1897; Egypt and Sudan, January 1897-March 1899 and Malta, March 1899-March 1904. For his service in Sudan he was awarded the Queen’s medal and the Khedive’s medal with clasp for Atbara. Having previously extended his period of service, he was discharged on 24 March 1904. Sold with copied service papers.
