Estimate: £60–£80

France, Jean Ingres, 1862, a bronze medal signed E.F. [perhaps J.-B.-E. Farochon], bust right, rev. legend, 55mm (cf. BDM II, 73 and VII, 292). Trifling marks, otherwise extremely fine and a handsome portrait, very rare (£60-80)

Obverse only illustrated. Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1780-1867), neo-classical painter from Montauban, spent most of his working life in Paris and Rome. The medallist may be Eugène Farochon, but that artist’s better known work of Ingres was executed in 1867 (CGMP p.237)
