Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, no clasp (11 Sergt. F. Connolly, Mil: Ft. Police) pitting from star otherwise nearly very fine £120-150

2 officers and 65 other ranks of the Military Foot Police served in Egypt in 1882, of whom 2 officers and 19 other ranks were present at Tel-el-Kebir. This was the first campaign for the newly formed M.F.P.

Francis Connolly was born in the Parish of Ardstraw, near Newtonstewart, County Tyrone, and enlisted into the 108th Foot (2nd Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers from 1881) on 26 June 1872, aged 19 years 6 months. Transferred to the Army Reserve in August 1881 as a Corporal, he was recalled in July 1882, posted to the Military Foot Police and promoted to Sergeant. He returned to the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in May 1883 and was finally discharged in the rank of Colour Sergeant, at Portsmouth, on 30 April 1891. Sold with copy discharge papers.
