Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 1 clasp, Alexandria 11th July (A. H. Day, Boy 1 Cl., H.M.S. Penelope) edge nicks and contact marks, otherwise very fine £120-150

Arthur Henry Day was born in a workhouse in Dorchester, Dorsetshire in January 1865, although his record of service states at Trinity, Worcester. Entering the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in March 1880, he was advanced to Able Seaman during his service in H.M.S. Penelope (January 1882 to July 1883), and attained the rate of Petty Officer 1st Class in October 1891. Pensioned ashore in October 1903, he joined the Royal Fleet Reserve as a Petty Officer (Pensioner) and served ashore in Victory I and Research (depot ship, Portland) in the Great War. Finally discharged in July 1922, Day died in Dorchester in August 1948.
