Eric T. Blake, who was from Bishop’s Stortford, first entered the French theatre of war with the 4th Battalion, Bedfordshires in late July 1915 and, having transferred to the 7th Battalion, won the Bar to his M.M. for operations on the Somme in the period August to September 1918, and more particularly the capture of Combles (regimental records refer); the relevant London Gazette, however, lists him as a member of the 2nd Battalion.
