The partnership of Wise, Farwell, Baker & Bentall dated to 1817. The senior partner was Ayshford Wise (1786-1847), of Ford House, Wolborough, MP for Totnes 1812-18; his associates were Robert Farwell, Nicholas Baker of Newton Bushell and William Searle Bentall, from the Totnes family of mill owners. The bank failed in July 1841
