William Howlett was born in the Parish of Pilsel, near Walsall, Staffordshire, and enlisted into the 69th Regiment on 4 September 1806, aged 20, a nailer by trade. He was discharged from the 69th at Bellary on 17 July 1815 and admitted to an Out Pension on 4 October 1816. However, he re-enlisted into the 5th Royal Veteran Battalion at Shrewsbury on 25 December 1819, being finally discharged upon disbandment of that unit on 4 June 1821. Sold with copy discharge papers.
