Kenneth Jarvis was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire in February 1925 and enlisted in the Royal Engineers in July 1943. Posted as a Tank Driver and Operator to ‘A’ Assault Squadron, R.E. (R.A.C.), he served in 6th Armoured Division in Italy and was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 23 May 1946 refers). He was released from service as a Corporal in July 1947; sold with a quantity of original documentation, including the recipient’s Soldier’s Service and Pay Book; a typed list of his unit’s engagements and movements in Italy 1944-45; two wartime photographs taken in Italy, including his tank crossing the Senio River in May 1945; a Christmas 1945 menu card for members of ‘A’ Assault Squadron, with numerous signatures; an original copy of the London Gazette for 23 May 1946; a wallet containing assorted post-war ephemera, including Hawker Siddeley Aviation and Royal Aeronautical Society membership cards (Hatfield Branches); and his R.E. cap badge and embroidered 8th Armoured Division sleeve insignia, and Corporal’s stripes.
