John William Cross was born in St. Mary’s, London and enlisted at Maesteg, Glamorgan. Serving with the Middlesex Regiment, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 24 March 1915. Serving with the 3rd Battalion he was killed in action on the first day of the battle of St. Julien, 24 April 1915. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. With copied m.i.c. and casualty details.
