Arthur Orwin served in the ranks as a Territorial and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in November 1916. He served in France from August 1915 to June 1916, and January to November 1917, and in Italy from November 1917 to November 1918. He was mentioned in despatches and awarded the Military Cross. He served with the 1st battalion in Ireland during the troubles, and as Adjutant, Auxiliary Force India, during the campaign in Burma 1930-32.
