Victoria (1837-1901), Gothic Florin, 1853 (ESC. 808; SC. 045). Some light scratching above rear of Queen’s crown, about extremely fine, reverse better (£50-70)
1 One of the shortcomings of the recent edition of ESC is the annoying failure to correct the errors in the listing of Gothic Florins, particularly in regard to punctuation marks after the date, which, despite the corrections published by Michael Dickinson some years ago in SCMB (July 1978, pp. 207-210, and May 1980, pp. 145-148), still persist after several editions. The recent SC published by Coincraft is a far more reliable guide, not least for extinguishing the myth of the 1887 Gothic Florin with 33 arcs.
