Black Sea Mortar Boats.
Six Black Sea vessels were conveyed out in May/June and reached Sebastopol in early August 1855. Each vessel carried one 13-inch mortar weighing 5 tons, capable of firing a 200 lb shell. The vessels themselves were of 100 tons, 60 feet in length and yawl rigged. They were first in action at Sebastopol on 15 August during the 5th bombardment of the fortress. They were again in action during the 6th and last bombardment which began on 6 September. With copied research.
