William D. Shaw was born in Kingsland, Southampton. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the 3rd Battalion Hampshire Regiment, attested for full-time service with the Hampshire Regiment at Southampton on 15 August 1899. With them he served in South Africa, January-March 1902; India, March 1902-February 1903; Aden, February-June 1903; Somaliland, June 1903-June 1904. He was transferred to the Army Reserve in May 1908 and discharged on 9 May 1912. With copied service papers.
