Arthur William Barnes was born in Ottawa in 1874 and enlisted into the 32nd Battery, 8th Brigade, C.F.A. in 1915, in which capacity he was awarded his M.M.
With the outbreak of the Second World War, Barnes enlisted into the Veterans Guard of Canada, and was employed on local protection duties in addition to sentry work for prisoners of war. He died however of heart problems on 7 November 1941, and was buried in his home town of Arnprior, Ontario; sold with two Veterans’ lapel badges and three ‘Veterans Guard’ cloth badges, together with a quantity of copied service papers.
