Richard Geore Barnes was born in Galt, Ontario, on 13 February 1894. A Clerk by occupation, he enlisted into the 11th Battalion at Valcartier in September 1914, but was . serving with the 4th (Central Ontario) Battalion when killed in action on 23 May 1915. An official report stated, ‘This soldier was killed at Festubert by an enemy shell, which also killed four other comrades who were, at the time, building a dugout in our support line.’ Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial; sold with copied service and other papers.
