Samuel George Hughes was born in South Wales on 16 September 1889. A Shipper by occupation, he enlisted in the 120th Battalion at Hamilton in December 1915, but was serving with the 19th (Central Ontario) Battalion when he was killed in action on 9 April 1917 at the battle of Vimy Ridge. His name is remembered at the Zivy Crater, Thelus, France. He was the husband of Annie Lockley (formerly Hughes), of 92 Emilie Street, Brantford, Ontario; sold with copied service papers.
