John Hutchinson McIlhagga was born in Belfast on 8 July 1880. A Labourer by occupation, and having previously served in the 134th Company, Imperial Yeomanry (Irish Horse) during the Boer War, he enlisted into the 128th (Moose Jaw) Battalion at Outlook on in December 1915. Subsequently posted to the 46th (South Saskatchewan) Battalion, he was killed in action at the battle of Passchendaele, 26 October 1917. He was buried in the Tyne Cot Cemetery; sold with copied service papers.
