Basil Thomas Martin was born in Bicester, lived in Worcester and enlisted at Bristol. Serving with the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, he died of wounds, France/Flanders, on 1 November 1914, aged 19 years. Martin was buried in the Ypres Town Cemetery Extension. He was the son of William James and Emily Martin, of 20 Avenue Road, Swindon, Wiltshire.
