Citation: ‘When the platoon of which he was in command was held up by the severe machine gun fire of the enemy, he went forward to reconnoitre personally, and having located the position of the machine gun, he brought forward his Lewis gun and put the enemy out of action. He behaved with great gallantry and composure under heavy fire, and his action enabled the advance to proceed.’
With citation on damaged ‘Admiralty’ headed paper.
