M.C. London Gazette 4 November, 1915: ‘For conspicuous gallantry at Loos on 25th September, 1915, when he led his men with great coolness and bravery against the German counter-attack. He was wounded in both legs.’
Harold Owen Bodvel-Roberts died at Le Tréport, France, on 18 November, 1915, of the wounds he received at Loos on 25 September. Sold with further details including extracts from the Battalion History which states: ‘To Lieut. H. O. B. Roberts went the proud distinction of being the first 7th London officer to be decorated. He was awarded the M.C. for his gallant conduct in action on the Crassier; unfortunately this brave and resolute officer did not live long to enjoy the honour bestowed upon him.’
