Maurice Roach was born in Co. Cork on 21 June 1867. A Blacksmith by occupation, he entered the Royal Navy as Armourer’s Crew on 7 August 1888. He was promoted to Armourer’s Mate in February 1893 when at H.M.S. Excellent and Armourer in July 1894 when on H.M.S. Wildfire. He was pensioned ashore in August 1910 after earlier receiving the L.S. & G.C. Medal whilst at H.M.S. Vernon. Roach returned to the service in August 1914 but was discharged as medically unfit in October the same year. With copied service paper and census extract.
