Three: Sergeant-Drummer J. Adair, Scots Guards

John Adair served with the Scots Guards as a Sergeant-Drummer and was present with the Regiment in Egypt (entitled to Medal with clasp Tel-el-Kebir ); in South Africa (entitled to Queen’s South Africa Medal with clasps Belmont, Modder River, and Orange Free State; and King’s South Africa Medal with 2 clasps). He became Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London on 24 January 1903, and was the first Yeoman Warder to wear the two medals for the Boer War. He was awarded the Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, and also the Meritorious Service Medal by Army Order 242 of 1926.

Note: The location of Sergeant-Drummer Adair’s other medals is unknown, and his Meritorious Service Medal included in this lot has previously appeared for sale as a single medal.
