Crimea 1854-56, 2 clasps, Alma, Sebastopol (Drumr. C. Evans. 42nd. Royal Highlanders) contemporarily engraved naming; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Lucknow (Drumr. C. Evans, 42nd. Rl. Highlanders.); Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue (...vans. 42nd. Royal ...hrs.) contemporarily engraved naming, pierced as issued with later ring suspension, edge bruising and heavy contact marks, nearly very fine (3) £440-500

Charles Evans was born on 17 April 1831 and attested for the 42nd Royal Highlanders (Black Watch) on 15 May 1845. Appointed a Drummer on 1 September 1847, he was promoted Corporal on 1 April 1854, and served with the Regiment in the Crimea, and in India, where he was engaged in the operations against Lucknow from 2-16 March 1858. Appointed Drum-Major on 25 July 1863, he was discharged on 30 May 1871, and afterwards was employed as a guide at Stirling Castle. He died at Stirling on 4 July 1875.
