Lloyd’s Medal for Saving Life at Sea, 1st large type bronze medallion, unnamed specimen, minor die cracks in part, edge bruising, therefore nearly very fine £80-120
Provenance: Captain J. Hartford Collection, Glendining’s, September 1992.
The large Lloyd’s Medal for Saving Life at Sea was superseded by a small medal, intended for wear, in 1896. Judging from the die cracks exhibited on this example, it would appear that this was one of the last large medals struck, and presumably formed part of the residual stock that was never awarded.
