James Johnson was born in Tyldesley, Lancashire, and attested for the King’s Own Scottish Borderers at Atherton, Lancashire. He served with the 7th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and was killed in action on 27 May 1916. He is buried in Vermelles British Cemetery, France.
