Queen’s Mediterranean 1899-1902 (805 Serjt: A. Dalziel. Seaforth Highrs:) polished, very fine £200-240
Adam Dalziel was born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, in 1865, and attested for the Seaforth Highlanders at Ayr on 21 August 1883, having previously served with the 4th (Militia) Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. He joined the Regiment at Fort George, Inverness, on 22 August 1883, and received annual advancement, being promoted Lance-Corporal in 1884; Corporal in 1885; Lance-Sergeant in 1886; and Sergeant on 5 November 1887. He obtained the Hythe Certificate in Musketry with a first-class classification on 13 December 1887. On 1 April 1890 he transferred with the rank of Company Sergeant-Major to the 2nd Battalion, West India Regiment, and served with them for five years before being re-posted back to the Depot Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders, on 11 September 1895. On 1 November 1896 he was posted to the 3rd (Militia) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders, and served with them in Egypt from 14 February 1900 to 10 June 1901. Returning to the U.K., he was discharged at Fort George on 20 August 1903 after 20 years’ service (although granted an extra year’s service for the purposes of his pension), and died in Edinburgh on 17 December 1940.
