M.M. London Gazette 21 October 1918. Awarded for the action on the Aisne in May 1918 when the 11th Battalion was in a rearguard action and completely cut off, all presumed killed or taken prisoner. Lance Corporal J. Helliwell won the Victoria Cross in this action for repeatedly rescuing wounded men under fire. The battalion never fought again and was disbanded in August 1918.
