Republic of India, Vir Chakra (3339173 Hav. Ajmer Singh, 4 Sikh - 10 Sept 1965) nearly extremely fine and scarce
One of three awards of the Vir Chakra bravery award for the battle of Burki, a village some 20 kilometres from Lahore. Burki had been developed into a fortress with a dozen camouflaged pill-boxes and surrounding minefields. The fortress was attacked on 10 September 1965, by the 4th Sikhs, of Saragahri fame. Both side used tanks though it was dark and after fierce hand to hand fighting the village was captured. The enemy artillery had expended more than 2000 shells in 30 minutes and their dead filled four trucks. The Sikhs suffered too with nearly 150 casualties.
