A Great War M.C. awarded to Major E. C. Burrows, Essex Regiment

Military Cross, G.V.R., the reverse privately engraved, ‘Major E. Crawford Burrows, Ypres, Aug. 1917’, in its case of issue, the base of which is fitted with an engraved silver plaque quoting the citation for his award as per the London Gazette (see below), good very fine £400-500

M.C. London Gazette 26 September 1917:

‘When commanding a leading company on the exposed flank of our attack, he had to take several enemy strong points during his advance and beyond the main objective. He carried out this difficult operation with complete success, capturing seventy-nine prisoners and displaying gallantry and skill of a high order throughout.’

Edward Crawford Burrows first went to France as a Lieutenant in the 2/7th Battalion, Essex Regiment (T.F.) in April 1917.
