Frederick William Wilby was commissioned Temporary Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in August 1943. He commanded the minesweeper B.Y.M.S. 2161, November 1944 - May 1945, and advanced to Lieutenant in August 1945. Wilby was released from service, 4 July 1946, and subsequently served as a Temporary Lieutenant attached to the London Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Supplementary Reserve.
