Arthur Balfour MacIntosh served in the Boer War with the 87th Battery, Royal Field Artillery, as a Captain, later promoted Major and to the command of the battery in 1902. He also served as Assistant Provost Marshal from June 1901 until December 1902. As Lieutenant Colonel Commanding 143 Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, he went to France in March 1915, being twice mentioned in despatches and awarded the D.S.O. He retired in 1919 and was granted the Brevet rank of Colonel in the 66th South Midland Brigade, R.F.A., on 3 December 1924.
