Robert Douglas Worrall was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Norfolk and Suffolk Brigade Company, Army Service Corps, 5 September 1914. He subsequently transferred as a Lieutenant to the Royal Horse Artillery (Territorial Force). Worrall was promoted Acting Captain, and appointed 2nd in Command of D/298th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery (T.F.), May 1918. He served with the Battery of the Somme, and relinquished his commission, 4 May 1919.
Bird served as Lieutenant-Colonel and Officer Commanding of the 6th Devon (Chumleigh) Battalion, Home Guard from January 1941.
Sold with copied research, including a photographic image of recipient as a member of the Home Guard.
