Isaac John Griffiths was born in Ystrad, Glamorgan in 1879, and attested for the South Wales Borderers at Brecon, becoming a member of the Special Reserve. He served with both the 1st and 2nd Battalions during the Great War on the Western Front from 13 November 1914, and died of wounds at No. 2 Australian Casualty Clearing Station in Blendeques, France on 19 August 1918. He is buried at Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery, France.
