Vernon Harry Scott Martin initially served as a Regimental Quarter Master Sergeant with the 3rd Battalion, Grenadier Guards. He was subsequently commissioned into the Honourable Artillery Company, and advanced to Captain Quarter Master in November 1947. Martin was promoted Major Quarter Master in March 1949.
