Provenance: Bt. 1985

The Kingston & Liguanea Water Works Co., incorporated in 1842, negotiated a lease part of the Hope Estate from the Duke of Buckingham and Chandos in 1848. The negotiations were concluded in 1850 resulted in the company acquiring over 600 acres of land, with buildings, for £6215. Within a short space of time pipes had been laid from the Hope River to supply running water to the population of Kingston. The Jamaican government bought out the company in 1871 and Edmund Levy is recorded as the collector in 1878
