Various bars and nightclubs employed girls who came over from Spain to sing and dance and entertain British servicemen and other customers. The customers would buy the girls expensive drinks, often non alcoholic, but appearing to be cocktails. When the girls collected the drinks from the bar they would receive a tally and at the end of the evening they could redeem these tallies for cash
