M.M. London Gazette 14 December 1916
Edwin Sizer was born in South Somercoates, Lincolnshire, in 1890. He enlisted in the Lincolnshire Regiment in 1909 and, after the outbreak of war, disembarked in France with the 1st Battalion on 13 August 1914. The London Gazette of 14 December 1916 carried the announcement of his M.M. award. This gazette largely carried individual awards for small actions, such as trench raids, carried out in September 1916, a period when the 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire saw considerable action, being engaged in the Battle of Flers-Courcellette (15 – 22 September 1916) and the Battle of Morval (25 – 28 September 1916).
