Meeanee Hyderabad 1843 (Captn. F. W. Follett. 25th Regt.) fitted with original steel clip and contemporary gilt bar suspension and ribbon fitments, two small edge bruises, otherwise good very fine £800-£1,000

Francis William Follett was born at Lyme Regis, Dorset, on 15 July 1811. He was appointed Ensign in the 25th Bombay Native Infantry on 27 February 1827, and was promoted to Lieutenant on 6 May 1833, becoming Adjutant on 10 September 1840. He was promoted to Captain on 1 May 1842, shortly before the regiment moved to the Upper Scinde District, taking part in the Scinde campaign, including the battles of Meeanee and Hyderabad.

Appointed Staff Officer at Kurrachee, and to take charge of Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General’s Department, May 1844; Brigade Major at Kurrache, January 1845; Acting Assistant Adjutant General of the troops in Scinde, October 1848; Acting Temporary Deputy Assistant Adjutant General of the Army, August 1851; attached Poona Division of the Army, December 1851; Deputy Judge Advocate General, Poona Division, April 1852; Assistant Quarter Master General, Poona Division, May 1852; Deputy Assistant Adjutant General, March 1853; Assistant Adjutant General, December 1853; promoted Major, 15 November 1853. Major Follett was described as ‘Commanding the 25th N.I. and is a zealous & efficient officer.’ He died, presumably in India, on 20 July 1857.
