Edward Lloyd was born in Cork on 10 December 1828, son of Commander Rickard Lloyd, R.N. [N.G.S. 3 clasps, Pique 26 March 1806, Martinique, 14 Dec. Boat Service 1814]. He was appointed Ensign in the 6th Foot, by purchase, on 12 November 1847; Lieutenant, by purchase, 26 December 1851; Captain, without purchase, 20 October 1857; Major, 6th Foot, 23 September 1870; exchanged to 106th Foot, 1 February 1873, went on half-pay on 13 May 1874 and retired by the sale of his commission in the same year.
Major Lloyd served throughout the Kaffir War of 1851-53, including operations in the Fish River, Waterkloof, Amarola, Transkei and other minor operations (Medal).
He married in August 1854, Maria Louisa Stanford, daughter of Sir Robert Stanford. They had seven children between 1855 and 1885. Sold with copied research.
