Leslie Frederick Eli Nichols initially served during the Second War with the County of London Yeomanry. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Pioneer Corps in March 1945, advanced to Captain and transferred to the Royal Artillery (T.F.). Nichols advanced to Major and transferred to the Intelligence Corps (T.A.), before transferring as Flight Lieutenant to the Provost Branch, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in March 1961. He relinquished his commission in March 1972, and retired as Honorary Major in March 1974.
