The Crimea medal awarded to Brevet Major The Honourable Charles Daly, 89th Regiment, who died of disease at Sebastopol in December 1854

Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol (Major The Honble. C. Daly. 89th Regt.) officially engraved naming by Hunt & Roskell, minor marks, otherwise nearly extremely fine £400-£500

The Honourable Charles Anthony Daly was the second son of James Daly, 1st Baron Dunsandle and Clanconal, of Dunsandle, County Galway. He was appointed Ensign in the 89th Foot on 25 July 1834; Lieutenant, 17 February 1837; Captain, 31 December 1839; Brevet Major, 11 November 1851. He died of disease, in camp before Sebastopol, on 29 December 1854. The medal rolls clearly show that his medal was sent to ‘H&R’ [Hunt & Roskell] to be engraved.
