Edward VI (1547-1553), Second period, 6 oz. issue, Shilling, Tower I, mdxlix [1549], mm. arrow (over G on rev.), bust 3, normal legends, 5.14g/7h (Bispham p.136; N 1917/1; S 2466). Edge cracks and legends partly weak, centres very fine, good portrait £300-£400

The G-marked shilling dies were originally prepared at the Tower for use in a proposed coinage at York, to be overseen by the under-treasurer in that city, George Gale, which was evidently abandoned
