James III (1460-1488), Base silver issue [Gp II], Groat, Edinburgh, mm. cross pattée, tressure of eight arcs, double saltire stops, thistle-head in first and fourth quarters, mullet in second and third quarters, 1.60g/1h (SCBI 749ff; B fig. 582; S 5270). A large fragment; small edge crack, otherwise about extremely fine and toned, exceptional portrait for the type £300-£400
