Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales (1707-51), father of George III, suffered a difficult relationship with his own father and suffered the ignominy of being banished from court in 1737. Moving to Carlton House, he furnished his residence with a rich collection of works of art during the 1740s, befriending the antiquary and numismatist George Vertue
