LYDIA, Sardis, Hadrian, Cistophoric Tetradrachm, after 128, bare-headed bust right, rev. Demeter, veiled, standing right holding stalks of grain and transverse sceptre, 10.87g (Metcalf type 46; RSC 322; RPC 1384ff). Overstruck on an earlier type (coiled snake clearly visible on Emperor’s neck), good fine with a few surface marks, rare £200-£260
The underlying coin may well be a Ephesian Cistophorus of Mark Antony and Octavia, struck c. 39 BC
