The destroyer H.M.S. Mons was launched on 1 May 1915 and was part of the 11th Destroyer Flotilla at the Battle of Jutland.

Edward William Reginald Norris was born in Stoke, Devon, on 3 May 1894 and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 21 April 1910. Advanced Able Seaman on 5 February 1914, he served during the Great War in H.M.S. Mons from 19 July 1915 to 25 July 1917, and was promoted Petty Officer on 1 September 1920. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1926.
